D. C. Colley funeral invitation

The collection contains a hand written funeral invitation for Lieutenant D. C. Colley who served in Company G, 61st Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry. According to Mr. Colley's great-niece the invitation was shown door-to-door on a silver plate by a servant.

John Matthew McCrary papers

Scope and Content This collection contains a promissory note to pay John Boutwell the sum of $80.00 for the service of a "negro slave named Reubin" in 1852. Stephen Jamison manumission documents

Scope and Contents

This collection contains manumission records signed by slaveholder Julia Treadway that granted Stephen Jamison freedom. There is an application allowing him to serve in the 4th Regiment of the United States Colored Infantry during the American Civil War that includes an Evidence of Title proving Treadway’s enslavement of Jamison, Treadway’s Claimant’s Certificate and Oath of Allegiance to the United States. In addition, there is a Deed of Manumission and Release of Service for Jamison.

Thomas Maguire papers

Scope and Content The majority of the Thomas Maguire papers revolves around plantation records from 1834 to 1876. There are two ledgers Maguire kept from 1834-1838, and 1838-1839 with chronological lists of purchases of various quantities of supplies. An account book from 1883 to 1884 contains similar information. A third account book belonged to John E. and James H.C. and recorded shipments of goods in rleation to their mill from 1879-1890.
